DT Tuesday with Heather - Thanks for Your Patience

Good morning everyone! Heather here this morning to share a project with you - and a few of the amazing cards that I have been seeing pop up on the Unity Show and Tell Group!

I also have a Quick Tip Video showing how I layered this card together all girlie and cute!

I adore this little cutie - it is the newly released Sloth Endearments set - SOOO cute! I had fun coloring it up in non-realistic colors!

Despite the layers, this card is still pretty much flat - so easy to mail too!

Now - I saw so many beautiful projects over on the Unity Show and Tell page - aren't these lovely? Make sure and leave these ladies some love!

And finally - since we are talking sloths and patience - here is a thought for you!

Thanks so much for stopping by today - have a wonderful day!

KOTM Monday Janaury 30, 2017

WOW!  The year has barely started and January is GONE!...WHERE???  It's Kris here to give you some encouragement (if you still need some!) to sign up for the awesome Kit of the Month.
You can click on any of the bold words in this post to see just how easy it is to have an entire sheet of Unity red rubber delivered right to your door each month.
I have a couple of cards using the January Kit - When You Smile.  It's always so hard to choose which image and sentiment to use first...I love them all so much!
Here's one using the cutest bunny-EVER!  And if you're old like me, you can just hear Ethel Merman belting out that song on Broadway!

Next I have the fabulous tennis shoes image.  I had to color these just like my blue Converse pair.

Now here's a shot of the full kit.

Just look at all of those images and sentiments. You still have two days to get January's Kit.
February is just around the corner.  I hope yours is fabulous.

Today, it is my turn to post about them!!
Hi Peeps!  How are you?
January's SMAK is Progress and Change and I LOVE it!  So many possibilities!  It was so hard to only use 3 images on one card!  I wanted to use the bird on the branch too!
Are you a member of SMAK?  It is only $36.99 a month and a full sheet of red rubber!

I love it so much I used all 4 images.  I just had to!
Are you a member?  LOL is only $14.99 a month, also worth every penny!  I love getting Unity kits in the mail!!
I like tying tags on the handle of a plain gift bag.

Inspiration Wednesday with Video Tutorials

Hey! Today I have a home d├ęcor project I’m hoping to inspire YOU to make. It’s a DIY Photo Canvas with pretty Unity goodness on it. I just LOVE the look of photo canvas prints, but they can be costly, you’ve got to wait for them to arrive, and I want to use my Unity Kit of the Month and SMAK on them. Also, I have a ton of pictures I’d like to do this with, SO . . . I took the plunge and here’s what I came up with.

I LOVE canvas texture!

That’s a picture of my youngest daughter, Gwendolen, riding on the carousel at Disneyland just before her 8th birthday in her Ariel Princess dress. I know I’ve posted pictures of this vacation on Facebook, looked through them a dozen times, but for the life of me, I just cannot recall seeing this photo before. Going back and looking at older photos sometimes allows me to SEE photos that I’ve overlooked for the very first time. There’s not a lot going on in the photo, so at the time I took it, I probably didn’t think anything of it. For some reason, it struck me the other day and I wanted to memorialize it for Gwendolen. Like, what the heck is she thinking in that picture? What is she looking at? She doesn’t even look like this at all any more. She’s 13 and has cultivated her own personal style and look. You know what? SHE enjoyed seeing her photo this way, too. SCORE!

On to the HOW-TO!

In this first video, I demonstrate how to secure tissue paper to cardstock, so you can print a photo on it. Then I demonstrate how to adhere the tissue paper to canvas. This is a mixed media technique you can use over and over again on canvas projects. One of my favorite techniques!

Supplies Used for this portion of the DIY Photo Canvas:
Masking Tape
Tissue Paper
Photo (access to printer, photo-editing software, etc)
Scissors or Paper Trimmer
Gel Medium
Paint Brush
Heat Tool (not necessary--just let air dry)
Fingernail File
Paper Towel or Baby Wipe

In the second video, I demonstrate how to add a simple sharpie frame to the edge of the photo from the DIY Photo Canvas done in the previous video.

The stamped sentiment on the photo is from Unity's January 2017 Kit of the Month.

Supplies Used for this portion of the DIY Photo Canvas:

In the final video, I demonstrate how to add simple dimension to a stamped/paper-pieced butterfly from Unity's SMAK Kit onto the DIY Photo Canvas done in the previous video.

Supplies Used for this portion of the DIY Photo Canvas:
Unity's January 2017 SMAK & Kit of the Month Kits
Paper Flower Roller or pencil
Adhesive like Tombow Mono Multi Glue Adhesive
Pearls and/or Crystals

Here’s a peek at Unity’s January Kit of the Month (I used the sentiment on the canvas above) and SMAK Kit (I used the butterfly on the canvas above).

I hope you all use these techniques to make your very own DIY photo canvas print. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll fill your home with them and maybe even share a few with your friends and families.

Birthday Dragonflies ~ DT Tuesday & Pick Of The Week

Hello, Gaylynn here with Design Team Tuesday.
Today I am sharing a birthday dragonfly card and also lovely creations by Unity friends.

Sentiment:  Happy Birthday.  May this day be magical and full of wonderful things.

This one combines the January 2017 Kit of the Month When You Smile and the Dec. 2016 Sentiment Kit Special Wishes.

Copics were used for the colors and I added chunky star glitter for a magical look.
I made a quick tip video tutorial for this project:

And here is a closer look:

And now onto samples of amazing creations by our Unity friends.
These were posted to the Unity Show and Tell group on Facebook.
We would love to see your Unity creations there.  Just request to join and then enjoy a bundle of inspiration, friendly sharing and challenges.

KOTM Monday with Karen

Hello Unity friends!  It's Karen here and today I am sharing this sweet little cocoa tag
that I made using this  month's Unity KOTM, called "When You Smile"!

I love cocoa and marshmellows, so I thought it would might be fun to use of some of my
recent Target findings (paper, gold glitter, and the twine) with the little cocoa mug!

I also added some other elements like paint corrugated paper, pine dies,
lace, glittery canvas flower, and some ephemera.  It's always fun to grab a bunch of different
types of elements to a project, to see what you come up with at the end!

Since it's Winter-time, I choose to use that beautiful red & black plaid background paper, along
with the black & white paper (I'm thinking those might be little bits of snowflakes, or so I made them to be).  Felt like a drink I'd love to have while sitting in the cabin with my family, while playing
some board games, so that's kind of what inspired this little project!

If you haven't signed up for this subscription, but would LOVE to do so, then
just click on the link below to read up on all the details!

It's well worth every penny, and you'll be excited to see what the
awesome designers come up with each month!  They always amaze me with their designs!!

Have a wonderful week!

Hugs & Smiles,

SOTW Sunday | Stephanie Gold

Gooooooooood Sunday morning Unity friends! Stephanie Gold here with a Stamp of the Week (SOTW) project inspired by Angela's art journal video the other day.

In her video she was tearing newspaper and distressing her background by ripping it. So I decided to try the same thing, but with a stamped image. First, here is this week's SOTW which I will be using in my project:

Image may contain: text
SO sweet, right?! Ok, so here is a distressed tag I made with it:
Do you see the subtle distressing on the butterfly? I created this effect by first painting the butterfly and then when it was almost dry, I lightly erased over it in certain areas to pull up some of the paper. To add to the distressed feel, I used Tim Holtz inks on the tag, doily, and the sentiment strip.
I love how it turned out! Something a little different. :) Alrighty everyone... here is your link to sign up or get more info on the Stamp of the Week if you aren't a member yet! And don't forget to shop Angela's incredible sales!!!! Much love people!

Inspiration Wednesday

Hi there Sharon here and I'd like to show you a card inspired by some recent KOTM and SMAK kits. You can really mix and match the kits to go together perfectly.

The trainers and sentiment come from the January KOTM, When You Smile. I coloured the trainers with Copics and then went over the whole of them with vintage photo distress ink for a more distressed look. The sentiment was stamped onto white card and then distress ink all over. I then made a little frame by tearing and distressing a little of the paper I'd used underneath the curls.

The heart comes from the December KOTM {Always Been You} I paper pieced the heart and then used the "cracked glass" effect on it. To do this you need to use ultra thick embossing powder. Heat up 3 layers onto your piece and then put it in the freezer for about 5 mins. Take it out and bend it a little all over, this makes the layers crack and you get a nice destressed effect.

For the background papers I used a nice sheet of written, distressed paper and distressed it a bit more by curling it up and going over it with distress ink in vintage photo. I added some turquoise paper underneath to show through. I then stamped onto the paper with 2 images ( the newspaper print and the coffee rings) from the November SMAK kit Forget The Past. I stamped randomly in vintage photo ink and then clear embossed to make them stand out.

So as you can see the different kits really do go well with each other. I hope I've inspired you to get out ALL your kits and have a go. We'd love to see your projects on our Show & Tell Facebook page.

Have a lovely day

DT Tuesday with Video Tutorials

H-E-LL-O! It's my first blog post of the year on the Unity Stamp Company blog and I wanted to make it count. It’s been around 8 months since I made a video, so I decided to capture three for this post. Yay! Craft-ee video goals! I made one art journal page using 6 Unity Stamp Company stamps from this month’s SMAK kit.

Mostly I use mixed media techniques in my crafting of art journal pages, canvases, rolodex, and scrapbooks. Creating backgrounds is one of the most important steps of the process, SO . . .

In the first video, I use an old book page as a background by demonstrating how to “peel” the book page, add some acrylic paint on top, and then a light wash over that. This is easy I promise and helps to inspire the final results. Try not to overdo this step. YOU keep it easy.

Supplies for this video:
90lb Mixed Media paper
Page from book
Masking Tape
Shipping Tape
Gel Medium
Paint Brush
Acrylic Paint (or Tim Holtz Distress Paint)
Paper towel
Heat Tool (not necessary--just let air dry)

In the next video, I demonstrate how to adhere stamped tissue paper on top of your art journal background—specifically the background I made in the previous video. To continue the art journal process, I also adhere a paper-pieced sentiment and butterfly on top of the stamped tissue paper and background. Why use stamped tissue paper you ask? Why not just stamp on top? Well, you can, of course. I like to use stamped tissue paper because I don’t trust MY stamping on top of the background and I like how the tissue paper fades on top of the background. Sometimes the tissue paper will add a bit of texture.

Supplies for this video:
Unity Stamp Company's SMAK Kit of January 2017
Tissue Paper
Stazon Ink
Gel Medium
Paint Brush
Heat Tool (not necessary--just let air dry)
Glue to adhere sentiment and butterfly

In the final video, I demonstrate how to “finish” the art journal page with a chunky/grungy, dark inked edge using black soot distress ink and one of your old rundown sponge daubers. If I’m inking any edge, I always use a rundown dauber. In the video, I show a close-up of my rundown dauber. It’s appreciated. It's also helpful to have a wood board, cutting board, etc., to place your project on, so you can edge the project effectively.

Supplies for this video:
Black Soot Distress Ink
one of your old rundown sponge daubers (must)
wood board or cutting board, etc.

And here’s the final result of the three techniques above.

Here’s a peek at this month’s SMAK Kit.

MOST IMPORTANT NOTE: Perfection is not the flavor of art journaling, so please strive for fun instead and SHARE your fun with others.

Linda Pekrul shared this mixed media layout below using an AngieGirl that helps documents the story of her dog. This is a very inspirational layout for all pet lovers.

Here's a link to Linda’s blog post where she provides more details: https://blueskyscrapping.blogspot.ca/2017/01/new-beginnings.html
Please express some admiration for her and her beloved Oakley. Also, her project is posted on Unity’s Show-and-Tell Facebook page. Scroll through, find it, and leave some love there, too.

I hope you all had fun on the blog today!
