LOVE HER!

Some Lovin' For You!

Happy Monday everyone!!  This is Kelly here and for the most part I am very happy, but because this is my last post as Unity's Guest Designer for November I do feel a little sad!  :-(  I want to thank Angela and all of the Unity DT members for a month in my life that I will never forget!  I had an awesome time being a small part of their team and I can't thank them enough for the opportunity.

In fact, if I think about it, Unity has probably been the reason that so many other opportunities have presented themselves to me.  This wonderful journey that I am on began back after the New Year.  The first KOM that I purchased was the January 09 KOM and the first Unity card I ever uploaded was THIS ONE.  When I saw Unity stamps for the first time I was drawn to their unique and trendy style.  I loved how they came from a category of their own.  They spoke to me... when I saw them and had them in my hands I HAD to create with them!  And it amazes me that month after month, Unity stamps still come out with fresh, new and trendy stamps that force me to use them!!

I quickly realized how much fun it was to hang out in the forums for Hip Hop and Hip Hop Hangover.  I sensed a feeling of family within the Unity Forum and I wanted to be a part of it so badly.  So I began participating in some chat threads, entering cards for the challenges and gradually my work began to be noticed.  I won a couple of challenges, I was getting nice comments on my cards and every once in a while my cards were even showcased on Angela's blogTHIS is the first card of mine that Angela put on her blog.  You can only imagine how rewarding that was when it happened!

I finally met Angela at CHA in Orlando this year and she was all I had imagined she would be.  She is so warm and friendly and full of life with an energy that emanates from her.  In fact, Brooke, AJ, and all the Unity crew are amazing people too!  I felt a connection with them immediately even though the only way we had met before was in written word!  Again, I had a feeling that I wished I could be part of that family!

I think part of the reason that I have been chosen to be on the Dirty Dozen at SCS is due to Unity Stamps.  They are such a well respected stamp company and they are liked by so many fabulous stampers.  I wouldn't be surprised at all if Jen Balcer first saw my work on the Unity blog!  I thank Angela so much for having noticed my work and having the confidence in what she saw in it to show it to others and in essence endorsing it by putting her stamp of approval on it.  I will forever be thankful to her for that!

My dream has come true and I can't tell you how excited I am to finally be a part of the Unity Family by being on the DT for Ippity.  I look forward to having a wonderful time using awesome stamps and finding many new friends.  There are a lot of great stamps out there, but  bar none, Unity stamps are my favorite!  I guess it is because when you buy a Unity stamp, you are getting so much more than red rubber!  You are getting a welcome into a family and a chance to build memories and fulfill your life!  Thanks Angela so much!!  And thanks to all of you for welcoming me into this family!

I couldn't just post my sappy story today and not leave you with a creation I made. So check out the Recipe Book Cover that I designed using the Winter CHA new release called Kitchen Logic.  I have complete details on my blog post HERE, so please check it out!

You might be surprised to find out what I used to make the cover. (Hint: I was being green!)

I paper pieced the dish towel and then colored the rest of the stove and sentiment in with my Copic markers.

And you gotta love buttons and the adorable BG new line called Nook and Pantry.  The base paper is a  cute kitchen set from Flair Designs line called What's Cooking!  I will be making three of these to give to my daughters so they can have all the family recipes that they are used to when they move out and cook for themselves and their families.  I will continue to showcase it's progress on My Blog so be sure to follow along with me!

Edited to Add: Rachel Bogner is Growing in Unity this week, so be sure to stop by her blog every day this week and see what Unity goodness she has in store for us!  Here is a link to Rachel's blog...

(Tehee!  I love that she has "bucket" in her blog name too!  Smiles!)

Thanks again to all of you for a wonderful month and I hope to see you hanging out with us also on the Ippity side!  Have a wonderful rest of your Monday and a fabulous week too!

Jimmi's Favorite Things Sunday!

Hi Everyone!!!!!!
I'm back with some of my favorite things from the past week. Today we have fashion, food, stamping and entertainment!

So let's get started!

Last week I was in love with my Bearpaw knit boots...well this Black Friday I got these Bearpaw boots for myself and I love them! Even my husband loves them, he said they look ADORABLE even though he says I'm "fun size" when I wear flat shoes, lol!
They are just like UGG's without the $130 price tag!
THIS card by Karen is one that jumped off the screen while I was looking through the SCS gallery! I love the colors and her coloring makes me so jealous, ha! All the shapes on the card are to fabulous, too!

This cute and cozy hoodie from Aeropostale had to be mine while Black Friday shopping! It's so sparkly and I love this color and it's a nice slim fit so it still looks a little "put together" but casual, not sloppy, love that!THIS super trendy, fab card by Lisa Arana is just perfect! The colors and the white embossed image work so perfectly together with her fun Nestabilities! Love it!

Okay, Dunkin' Donuts coffee has become the coffee of the Mayo house! I just love it and so does Rachel so it's a keeper! I have had it at Dunkin Donuts but never at home until I got a free sample of it to try and then I went right out and bought some at Target (they had a great price).
Do you want your own FREE sample? Go to THIS page and sign up for it!THIS card by Lori is SO striking and lovely! I love the simple elegance of it and the rounded corners on the right side are just the extra touch that sets it over the top! Fabulous!

Last night Mike and I went to see The Blind Side!
I have been dying to see this movie; 1. I love Sandra Bullock, 2. I LOVE football, 3. I {heart} Tim McGraw! So for me it was a no-brainer! Let me tell you, this movie is BEAUTIFUL, FUNNY, INSPIRING and simply perfect! Go see it NOW! I've totally decided that VA is not Southern enough for me and we are immediately moving to Tennessee, Mississippi or Louisiana or some other proper state, LOL! We'll see what Mike has to say about that, I guess...but I need a more Southern accent ASAP! :)I couldn't post without a Christmas card could I? It is almost that time of the year! Here is a gorgeous Ippity card by Michelle that I love! It is so elegant and light, whimsical and feminine that I just love looking at it!

Here is something I loved and my whole family loved. My Kosher Salt encrusted Prime Rib I made last night for dinner at my mother in law's house! I know it looks kinda weird but scroll down for the recipe and try it, you will not be disappointed and your mouth will be watering just thinking about it for days! Here are my directions...not so official but you get the idea:
Heat oven to 450*F
Place Standing Rib Roast (this one was boneless but bone in is good too) in roasting pan on bed of salt.
Pepper it and cut little holes for some garlic slices and put those in it
Then I put dijon mustard on it, just rubbed it on with my hands...
Then cover it with Kosher Salt, thickly (I use a whole 5lb box for this 6 pound roast)
Then put it in the oven for 30 mins. at 450* then turn the heat down to 350* and roast for 15 mins. per pound or until it reaches 140*F for Med. Rare. The end pieces will be Med. Well and towards the center will be Med. Rare.
Then take it out and make everyone "ooh and ahhh" when you break the salty shell off!!!

I serve it with this sauce:
1 1/2 cup Sour Cream
1 tbsp. Horseradish (not "prepared horseradish) or more if you like it hotter.
1 tbsp. Mayo
a little fresh or dried Dill to taste
Pepper to taste
Mix together and serve with Prime Rib

The other thing that was a FAVORITE of mine this week was Black Friday shopping! I was so excited to introduce it to one of my daughters friends! She saw something I said about it on Facebook and called Rachel right away and said "your mom has some elaborate shopping plan and I want to go with her!", isn't that cute? So she came over Thursday night and spent the night and her and Rachel got up and went with Sherry and I for the best day of the year!
We got great deals at JcPenney, Kohls, Target and an awesome deal on a digi-frame at Wal-Mart. Besides the frame Wal-Mart was kind of a bust but that's ok the EXPERIENCE is really all I am out there for, it's not about the deals, it's about the FUN times with FRIENDS for me!
I hope you had a beautiful, wonderful week and I will see you next Sunday with another edition of Jimmi's Favorite Things!
{Maybe you'll see your card here!}

Here are a few shopping quotes to inspire you!

I like my money right where I can see it: hanging in my closet.

{SO TRUE for me!}

Shopping is a woman thing. It's a contact sport like football. Women enjoy the scrimmage, the noisy crowds, the danger of being trampled to death, and the ecstasy of the purchase.

and that today was successful if you went out and braved the stores early.

Now it is time for a bit of "you-time" so sit back and enjoy the inspiration that comes from the Friends with Flair blog-hop.

Speaking of Inspiration, as you may recall we are starting a little inspirational challenge each week. Maren or I will choose a card from the previous week's FWF hop (you never know when yours might be chosen!!) for everyone to use as inspiration...our Friends With Flair Inspiration. Just an extra little challenge as you head into the weekend to give you the push to create. We hope that you will play along.

This week our challenge card comes from Carolina. I thought that this little ensemble was perfect to go with our Black Friday theme...the purse with the simple black&white color scheme, but full of perfect little details.

You may choose any element of this project to inspire you this weekend as you create. There is no right or wrong to this challenge.
Just make sure that you share what you create with us by uploading it to SCS using the keyword FWF02.

It's Unity Artist Wednesday ...

and a BIG Hello from Maryland...
Hi everyone, it's Lisa Hetrick. Angela asked me to share some lovelies with you today and I am oh so happy to share.

First up... it's an anniversary of sorts.
A year ago this month, my art appeared in the November 2008 KOM and I became a NEW UNITY ARTIST. Like most of you, I became acquainted with Unity through Splitcoast and I fell in LOVE. LOVE. LOVEY. Unity was NEW and FRESH and on the cusp of something very big. I could feel it. I could see it. I'm a graphic designer and illustrator and have always dreamed of combining my love of stamping and illustration together. My style of ART needed a home and I really didn't see where I fit in until I found Unity. And, OH MY it has been an awesome, wild RIDE! Growing with Unity!

I had the pleasure of meeting all of the Unity peeps at CHA this past summer and it was like being with family. Like coming home. I LOVE THAT!

Like many of the Unity artists, I am a stamper, too. So, when I illustrate for Unity, I'm always thinking about how the image might be used. So, keep your ideas coming. And, I know I can speak for all the Unity artists when I say ... we love and appreciate all the ideas and feedback you share.

So here's to anniversaries and finding a place for my art to call home.

Now on to some of my creations using some of my releases. I whipped up this card set for a holiday gift using the Bevvy of Butterflies set. I know I've shared my story of what inspired the Butterfly set, but I'll share again here, in brief. This set is near and dear to my heart.

When my mother passed suddenly, 12 years ago, I was so stricken with shock and grief that I took a moment to sit by the lake at my parents home. I cried and prayed and asked for a sign that she was okay. At that very moment, a butterfly landed on my nose. It was March. It was cold. It was a sign.

And because I LOVE. LOVE. LOVEY the holiday season. Here are some card creations and holiday projects to get you in the SPIRIT. These cards use this season's holiday releases Embellished Season, Joy and Wonder, and Bright and Merry Winter Wishes.

This super cute house uses the awesome poinsettia image (Kristen Bents) from the HodgePodge of Happiness set. LOVE THAT SET. And, the chipboard tree ornament uses the Merry and Bright sentiment and the swirly sentiment (Amy Bass) from Bright and Merry Winter Wishes.

Thank you for indulging me for SOOOO LONG here. I had to share this little pretty using one of my favorite creations for Unity, Shine On.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! And it wouldn't be the end of an Angela post without a quote. So, here's one Lisa style. Tee hee!

And if you're a local to MD, PA, VA, join me at PhotoScraps for some fun creating time. I teach classes (using Unity) several times a month and you are guaranteed to have a blast.

It's a Design Team Tuesday...

...with ME :D Renee'...welcome to Angela's blog...I have the pleasure of being in charge...oh and I love being in charge! LOL

Today I am sharing a BRAND NEW LO featuring several amazing stamps as always! Today I used more of the {Capture Life} set and added in some of {Retro BBQ} and what makes this LO special is its hybrid! So many people think they can't do hybrid but they can and the fastest and easiest way to do that is by adding paper piecings to your digital LO.

...if you stop by {my blog} today you will get to see another BRAND NEW layout from me...and leave a comment because I will have a drawing myself for a couple of free Unity Stamps :D

...and it wouldn't be a post on Angela's blog without a great quote:

The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live.

Have a super Tuesday my friends!

Tutorial of Ornamental Proportions!

Hi there Unity Peeps!!  This is Kelly Landers, the Guest Designer for Unity Stamps this month.  Thanks so much for all your sweet comments on my blog when Angela has sent you over there!  I really appreciate it and have been having so much fun working with her uber talented DT members and of course her fabulous stamps!  Unity Rocks!!

I am here today to share with you a tutorial on how I made this ornament...

I made this ornament for a Dirty Dozen/ Dirty Dozen Alumni Challenge at SCS this month.  You can see my blog post about it HERE.

The one that we make today will be just slightly different, but you will see how it can be changed up to suit your needs or to be able to work with the supplies that you have on hand.

Step 1 Gather your supplies. ( In addition to what you see pictured below, you will also need a pencil, scissors, file or sandpaper, heat gun, Cuttlebug (optional), red tape, paintbrush and Cropadile or hole punch.)

The Unity stamps used for my project come from two different sets.  The reindeer is called All Santa's Reindeer (designed by Krisine Bents) and the sentiment is from the Bitty Christmas tags set.

Step 2  Use a precut Chipboard circle measuring 4 inches, or trace around a circle of the same size. I used the largest of the Large Nestie Circles to trace around.

Step 3  Choose the DP that you want to use.  I have used coordinating DP from Martha Stewart's collection called Golden Woodland.  I liked the lines that this had and chose to place my circle centered over the circle on the DP.  The sky is the limit when you choose your DP.  Trace around your circle and cut it out.

Step 4 Apply adhesive to the back of the cut circle and attach it to what will now be the front of the Chipboard Circle.  Sand or file the edges until smooth.

Step 5  Choose a blank CS or a DP that is lighter in color and stamp the reindeer (or image of your choice) with embossing ink.  Apply fine gold embossing powder and heat it up with your heat gun.

Step 6  Using your Cuttlebug (or any scissors or circle cutting device) carefully place the reindeer in the middle of the die (I used the second from the largest of the Small Nestie Circles) and run it through the machine.  Run it through again to emboss it if desired.

Step 7  Using your Stamp-a-ma-jig carefully stamp the sentiment onto the circle you just cut.  Be careful to keep it aligned and straight.  I used Stampin Up's Sage Shadow, but any matching ink will do.

Step 8  Apply adhesive to the smaller circle and center it on top of the chipboard base.

Step 9  Using coordinated DP's cut two small strips of paper to apply to the bottom of the ornament.  Turn the ornament over and cut the excess paper off that extends beyond the edges.  File or sand the circle to smooth all the edges and apply gold ink to the edges.

Step 10 Cut a piece of trim long enough to extend beyond both sides of the ornament.  Apply red tape and attach the trim.  Wrap the edges to the back, reduce any bulk you can and tape it securely.

Step 11 Cut another 4 inch circle from coordinating DP for the back of the ornament.  Apply adhesive and attach it to the back side of the ornament to cover the raw  ribbon and finish the back. Sand as needed and apply gold ink to the edges.

Step 12  Paint your chipboard flourish with the paint of your choice.  You also could choose to cover it with paper using Modge Podge.  I used Judikins Mica Gloss Metallic Effects Ink and combined two colors to get the proper match.  I chose this shape of flourish because I felt it mimics the look of a reindeer's antlers.  The chipboard flourish I used is from Fancy Pants.

Step 13  Allow the front to dry and repeat the process on the reverse side.

Step 14  Using a Cropadile or a hole punch tool, apply a hole in the top of the chipboard flourish.

Step 15  Cut a large and small snowflake using the punches of your choice.  I used Martha Stewart's, but you could also use felt snowflakes like I did on the sample I showed on my blog.  Or you could use a stamp of a snowflake and cut around it.

Step 16  Attach a decorated brad to the center of the snowflakes and attach them securely to the center of the chipboard flourish.

Step 17  Attach a gold cording or coordinated ribbon or string through the hole in the  flourish and it is ready to be hung on your tree or given to a special someone!

So there you have it!  It seems like a lot of steps, but it goes together quickly. I hope you will try to make an ornament  similar to this one and if you do we would love to see it, so be sure to upload it to the SCS Gallery and put Unity in for the keyword.

Have a wonderful day and thanks if you stuck it out all the way to the end!!
